ARTIST Caroline Hervey-Bathurst has designed a special prayer card to commemorate the part Winchester Cathedral will play in marking the centenary of the start of the First World War.
The card includes both a prayer for peace and Laurence Binyon’s poem For the Fallen and one will be given to everyone who joins the tour about the Cathedral’s story during the war.
These tours will take place every Friday between June and November from 2pm until 4pm. They will concentrate on local events and personalities of the period in the garrison town and recognise the Cathedral’s role as a place where people came for consolation and guidance.
Tickets for these tours are priced £10. They can be booked from the Cathedral box office on 01962 857 275 or online at Winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
The price includes tea and cake after the tour.
*The Southern Cathedrals Festival, a celebration of music and fellowship between Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals, will take place from July 16-20.
