BESTSELLING writer Val McDermid as she visits Winchester Discovery Centre to speak about her recently published reimagining of the Jane Austen classic Northanger Abbey.

Val is one of six contemporary writers, including Joanna Trollope and Alexander McCall Smith, chosen to re-imagine the six complete Austen novels.

Val McDermid is one of our most loved crime novelists, author of 25 novels which have been translated into over 30 languages, selling over ten million copies.

She was awarded the Crime Writers Association Diamond Dagger in 2010 for sustained excellence and significant contribution to crime fiction.

Now Val brings her scalpel sharp wit to the satire of the Gothic classic Northanger Abbey.

In a modern day rural setting of Dorset and at the Edinburgh Festival, then at Northanger Abbey in the Scottish Borders, the novel features Catherine ‘Cat’ Morland and her neighbours the Allens.

Jane Austen fans and also readers unfamiliar with the original will be enchanted by this contemporary retelling.

Meet Val on Sunday, May 11 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 from the Winchester Discovery Centre box office on 01962 873603. Books will be available for sale and signing on the night.
