FLUID Motion theatre company would like to invite young actors to audition for a forthcoming project.

Battleborn is a community youth arts project which will involve the company’s two youth theatres in Wickham and Basingstoke.

Children, young people and members of the community will have the chance to learn about World War One, through historical research and then a creative development process in which the groups create a piece of original theatre using the research gathered.

During phase 1 between April and May, the young people will conduct basic research about WW1 and explore any family links they may have. Fluid Motion will work with local historians and the British Legion as well as using archive material from Hampshire Archives to form the basis of their creative responses.

Phase 2, from May to August, will see the group work with a professional theatre director to transform their research and understanding of WW1 into a piece of theatre. During this phase, the young people will all be working towards an Arts Award at either Explore or Bronze Level. The final performance will take place at the University of Winchester in August.

Fluid Motion would like to hear from budding young actors between the ages of six and nineteen to join the Basingstoke part o this project.

The group meets every Friday during term time from 5pm – 7pm in Aldworth School, Western Way, Basingstoke, RG22 6HA. Interested participants should contact Ali by emailing ali@fluidmotiontheatre.co.uk or calling 07784 316 731.

Leigh Johnstone, artistic director of Fluid Motion, said: “Battleborn allows the whole community to come together and commemorate the centenary of the First World War in a creative way.

“We were surprised, when we asked our youth theatre groups, how little they knew about the war. We feel that Battleborn will give young people the opportunity to engage with their local heritage in a way that’s meaningful to them.”
