DESPITE the weather, visitors to North Hampshire Orchid Society’s show were treated to glorious displays of spectacular tropical orchids.

The elegant and colourful flowers cascading from displays in Oakley Village hall for this popular annual event were grown by members of three local orchid societies: North Hampshire Orchid Society, Thames Valley Orchid Society, Wessex Orchid Society and the Orchid Society of Great Britain.

Plant sales were by Lawrence Hobbs Orchids and proved popular with visitors.

The winning plants were chosen by a panel of judges using criteria recommended by the British Orchid Council. The best in show was Dendrobium “Hilda Poxor”, grown by Terry Vasey of Thames Valley Orchid Society.

Part of the aim of the show was to demonstrate to visitors how easy it is to grow these varied plants and was complemented by an orchid clinic.

North Hampshire Orchid Society has around 25 members and meets on the third Sunday of the month at 2pm in East Oakley Village Hall.
