HUGELY successful local graphic artist Kev Munday has been selected to design a high-profile wallpaper which will be stocked in national DIY chains from early 2014.

The paper is part of a Graham & Brown range called New Wave, which has been curated by renowned design journalist Barbara Chandler.

New Wave is a collection celebrating the best of British print and pattern making and initially 24 designers were shortlisted, with just eight making it through to the final collection.

Kev, who lives in Chineham and has a studio at the Proteus Creation Space in Council Road, explained: “The concept of the range is to bring to the mass-market an unparalleled collection of original design, which people up and down the land - and indeed all over the world - can easily access in big stores and smaller specialists and, crucially, can afford.

“It will be the first time so many cutting-edge designs have come together onto the mass market at a reasonable price.”
The actual design is under wraps until the January launch, after which point it will be for sale in over 70 countries all over the world, in the UK, in stores including B&Q and Homebase.

The 27 year-old former student of Costello School and Queen Mary’s College, explained: “It's all been top secret until recently but it's been ongoing for a while.

“I was shortlisted for the project after Barbara saw my artwork at Interiors Tradeshow at the NEC in Birmingham in January 2013, I then had a few months to create designs before pitching them to a panel of design experts in June, with one of them being selected for mass production.

“I am delighted and can't wait to see it in the shops!”
