IF a spot of quirky fun is what you and your kids need this Halloween, then get wellied-up and head for Riverford Upper Norton Farm in Sutton Scotney.

The farm is the site of the Riverford Organic brand, which recently won nine golds at the 27th Soil Association Organic Food Awards.

“Everything we grow and sell at Riverford is selected for flavour, and winning so many awards in a blind tasting reassures us that we’re hitting the mark,” said Riverford’s founding farmer and current BBC Farmer of the Year, Guy Watson.

Riverford started as a vegbox business but has been busy extending its food range to include picnic goodies, desserts and a creative new range of soups.

The gold award winning products were Riverford’s Butternut Squash & Bacon Chowder, Chickpea, Cauliflower & Coconut Masala Soup, Vegetable Harira Soup, Seville Orange Marmalade, Homity Pie and Treacle Tart, all of which are handmade by the Riverford Kitchen. Gold winners in the fresh produce categories were their baby artichokes, mini cucumbers and carrots.

Their forthcoming Pumpkin Day, on Saturday, October 26, from 11am until 4pm, is legendary and with good reason. It’s full of busy fun, tasty food and a good dose of fresh air and entry is completely free of charge.

Children’s activities include apple pressing, worm digging, pumpkin carving, face painting and vegetable games. When that all gets too much, they can settle down to paint spooky pictures in the creativity area or take a tractor ride around the farm to see where the team grow the veg for the farm’s vegboxes.

“Our Pumpkin Day is a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of autumn and all the fantastic food that it brings,” added Guy.

“It’s a free day out with loads for both kids and adults to enjoy, right here on the farm”.

If you’ve still got some energy left after all that, you can string some chillies to make an original Christmas present, and everyone will get a sneaky first taste of Riverford’s Christmas food too.

You’ll find plenty of tasty organic food and drink for you to buy including tempting Riverford Field Kitchen soups, tagines and stews, entry is free, all are welcome (you don’t have to be a Riverford customer) and there’s no need to book.
