THE Purefoy Arms in Preston Candover has today been crowned The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year for the South East.

Becoming one of the regional winners in the awards is a prestigious accolade for The Purefoy Arms as the awards are based on nominations from tens of thousands members of the public who support their favourite local eateries.

This year, 39,000 people submitted nominations. To qualify for the awards, restaurants needed to be independently run and offer regional or local produce where possible.

Marie-Louise & Andres Alemany, owners of The Purefoy Arms, were thrilled to win the award, commenting: "Winning the Readers’ Restaurant of the Year award for the south east has made us immensely proud. You can’t get a bigger compliment than being nominated by your customers."

Elizabeth Carter, Consultant Editor of The Good Food Guide, added: "It may be a textbook country pub – pretty village location, winter fires, beer garden – but it’s the quirky but appealing modern cooking and genuinely lovely hospitality which makes this pub so popular with our readers."

One of the ten regional winners will go on to be named as the overall The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year 2014 at a ceremony in central London on June 19.
