FOOTBALLER Terry Paine MBE and historian Duncan Holley will visit Basingstoke Discovery Centre in Festival Place at the end of the month.

They will reflect on the first 100 seasons of Southampton FC and take questions at their appearance on Thursday, August 30 at 2pm.

Duncan is the official historian for Southampton FC and has written a number of books on the club. On the day, he’ll launch his latest book, Suited and Booted: A Snapshot of Pre-war Southampton FC in Pictures, which will be available for purchase and signing.

Duncan said: “There is a big Saints following in the north of the county so this will be a great chance for locals to find out more about the club and ask questions.”

Terry Paine scored 160 goals for Saints between 1957 and 1974 and continues to be involved with football, working as a presenter on South Africa’s SuperSport channel.

Steven Hunt, assistant manager of Basingstoke Discovery Centre, said: “This is a very exciting event - not only are we getting a former England player to visit, but Terry has hinted that some former team-mates may turn up too.”

Tickets priced just £3 each can be booked in person, by phone on 01256 478670 or online at hants.gov.uk/bsdc.
