LEGO Mania 2013 begins next week at Milestones Museum
3:30pm Tuesday 19th February 2013 in Leisure
Councillor Keith Chapman with Duncan at last year's event
LAST year’s hugely successful LEGO Mania event at Milestones Museum is back for 2013.
In 2012, Duncan Titmarsh, the only certified LEGO builder in the UK, constructed Basing House entirely from the popular toy inside the museum at Basingstoke’s Leisure Park, something witnessed by 36,000 visitors.
This year, he’ll co-ordinate Bright Bricks’ construction of a four metre long Thornycroft truck, which will complement the museum’s collection of vintage Thornycroft vehicles.
Bright Bricks, the company who helped James May build a 20ft LEGO house in 2009, will use around 150,000 bricks to complete the truck, working between Tuesday, February 26 and Sunday, April 14.
The model will be built in front of visitors on the indoor ‘showground’ in Milestones Museum and displayed throughout the Easter holidays.
Hampshire County Council holds one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind relating to the world famous Thornycroft company, which also produced cars at its Basingstoke factory from 1903 to 1912. The collection includes vehicles, machine tools and equipment, production records and photographs, printed sales brochures and handbooks, family archives and general business records relating to both the vehicles and ship-building divisions.
An array of themed events will surround 2013’s build, including competitions, a LEGO Minifigure hunt, LEGO and DUPLO play tables and a new graffiti wall, plus a photographic gallery and exhibition of LEGO models such as an Olympic stadium.
