BUDDING Basingstoke authors are among those taking part in National Novel Writing Month, which begins today.
A group of the participants met earlier this week in Basingstoke Discovery Centre to find out more, or simply meet up with fellow brave souls who'd be taking on the challenge of writing 50,000 words in just one month.
They included Emma, who'd impressively completed it several times before, and a group of students who, even more impressively, had their NaNoWriMo bags with them.
Local author Stuart Johns, from South Ham, talked about the process of writing and self-publishing, a route he'd chosen for his Aerworuld books. Stuart said: "It all started in the 1990s with a short story. It was self-contained and I picked it up four years ago and saw how threads in ideas could come togethers and how two worlds connected themselves. It's been so rewarding - if not financially, then in other ways."
Jess Hanslip from BDC said: "The brilliant thing about NaNoWriMo is that it breaks the threshold of the self-consciousness with writing - will it sound silly, will it sound childish? With NaNoWriM, the sprint for the words gets rid of all that."
Good luck, everyone!
