CREDIT controller Kerry Taylor wanted a better understanding of the computer on her office desk, so she enrolled on the ITQ Level 2 course at Chineham Learning Centre.

"It made my work so much easier," she said. "I use spreadsheets and word processing a lot, and since completing this course I have become quicker and more confident, allowing more time to take on other office responsibilities."

The ITQ is a qualification for IT users. Developed by employers to meet the IT needs of the workplace, it is used in all sectors of business and industry. Recognising that all organisations need different IT skills, the course adjusts to suit the workplace and the employee as it can be customised.

In other words, people or companies create their own ITQ, so that staff may learn and be assessed on tasks that they need to know as part of their job.

The Chineham Learning Centre, in the Clock Tower at the shopping centre, specialises in delivering the ITQ.

Offering an adult learning environment for business users, it is open from 9am to 9pm from Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm on Fridays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The centre uses an appointment system to guarantee that each person can train at the time he or she wishes.

Individuals and small groups work on word processing, spreadsheets, internet, e-mail, artwork and imaging, databases and presentation graphics.

There are no tuition fees for the ITQ course at Chineham.

A registration fee of approximately £45 may be payable according to the circumstances of the employee.
