Plotting a course for leaders

BCOT is enrolling for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Professional Development Scheme: Leadership and Management.

This is a postgraduate-level qualification that has been developed to help advance managerial careers in people management and development.

It is set as a level 7 qualification and is the educational programme based on the CIPD's practitioner-level standards.

The qualification is aimed at those who already hold a Certificate in Personnel Practice, a Certificate in Training Practice or a degree in HR, or senior HR managers with relevant work experience.

It is equally valuable to individuals aspiring to such a role.

This programme consists of four fields:

The first field covers leadership and management, which has four modules. These require candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and competence in managing and leading organisations at an operational and strategic level.

Linda Holbeche, director of research and policy at the CIPD, said: "Developing leadership cultures is important for the success of any organisation, particularly in times of economic slowdown.

"Every organisation needs strong leaders who can assist HR in a number of ways, such as keeping employees engaged, spotting skills gaps or managing redundancies."

The course starts in September and candidates are required to attend two sessions a week.
