BCOT is inviting anyone interested in starting a career in healthcare to a taster day "drop-in" event on Friday, May 23, to find out more about a brand-new one-year Access to Higher Education Diploma in health.
It will offer a grounding in the fundamentals of healthcare, including anatomy, physiology, health and society, and psychology applied to health.
The course is designed for mature students who have no formal qualifications, but wish to access higher education and professional careers.
Students who successfully complete the course will be able to progress to degree-level study in their chosen specialism.
Explaining why the course has been introduced, Sally Peacock, head of health, care and early years at BCOT, said: "There are many people who have considered training to become a nurse, midwife, psychologist or other healthcare specialist, but felt they did not have the qualifications or the time.
"BCOT wanted to open up new opportunities to a greater number of people. These opportunities either didn't exist before or were hard to fit into a busy life."
The course is designed to fit around school hours, to suit parents who have children of school age.
Students will spend three-and-a-half days a week at college. Outside college, they can study independently at times to suit themselves.
Sally added: "We have tailored the way we offer this course to make it accessible to everyone, especially work returners, who often find themselves excluded from study because of family commitments.
"Students are supported every step of the way with study skills and personal development to boost their confidence."
The Access to Higher Education (Health) taster day drop-in event on May 23 runs from 1pm to 4pm, at Basingstoke College of Technology, Worting Road, Basingstoke.
