BASINGSTOKE College of Technology has officially launched its new ABC level two diploma in fashion retail.
Penny Routeledge, a representative from ABC Awards, joined members of college staff in the newly-equipped fashion retail room at BCOT, where they marked the launch with the cutting of a celebratory cake.
The full-time course, which starts in September 2008, will introduce students to the exciting world of fashion retailing.
Modules include visual merchandising, buying and trends.
Work placement - which will form an essential part of the course - will enable students to explore the fashion retail environment, and help them to decide which area of retail they find the most stimulating.
Among the core units are customer service, selling for fashion retail and an introduction to visual merchandising, as well as an insight into understanding the "store environment".
Additional units include personal shopping and style, market research and branding for retail, marketing and PR for fashion, retail fashion history, and fashion design and communication.
Anyone interested in applying to the course should have four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English, as well as an interest in working in the fashion retail sector.
Progression from the course is further study (typically the ABC level three diploma in retail fashion or other further education courses, such as business), an Advanced Retail Apprenticeship or employment in a supervisory role within a fashion retail store.
