At Reading School we prepare all students to fulfil their potential in the modern world. We do this by providing an education based on forward-looking ideas in a traditional setting.

We aim for all our students to:
  • Understand themselves and others, whilst enjoying life at school to the full;
  • Understand their own culture and that of other people;
  • Develop a passion for learning for its own sake and for the benefit of others.

We treasure the timeless values of honesty and commitment. We encourage hard work combined with intellectual curiosity. We work to ensure our students become citizens who can create better international understandings and a peaceful society for the future. We are committed to safeguarding our students so that they feel safe and flourish in a secure environment.

Reading School is a selective grammar school providing free tuition for boys within the state-maintained sector and is suitable for day boys within the Reading area and for weekly boarders.

All tuition is free and boarding fees are from £8424 per year. Each year there is a maximum of 12 boarding places available at 11+, with additional places available at 13+ and 16+. There are approximately 70 boarders accommodated within two boarding houses, each having its own resident House Master and Assistant House Master. Single rooms are normally available to Year 9 boys and above.

The school has been placed consistently in the top 25 state schools in the tables of results for both Advanced Level and GCSE, and also achieves very high positions in value added tables at different levels. 32 boys were awarded an Oxbridge place for entry in October 2008.

Both Music and Drama flourish, there are extensive fixture lists in many sports and school trips and tours to various destinations around the world are undertaken.
