HAIRY spiders and slithery snakes were the stars of a nursery lesson about creepy crawlies.
A ranger from ZooLab animal handlers visited Just Learning Nursery, in Aldermaston Road, Basingstoke, with a selection of insects and animals, including a tarantula, cockroaches, a snake and stick insects.
The company offers animal workshops in schools to educate children about unusual creatures.
Around 30 children, aged between two and four, were involved in the workshop at Just Learning.
Karen Brackstone, a senior nursery nurse at Just Learning, said: “The children had the opportunity to handle most of the animals and learned about their environment.
“Most of the children did hold the animals, some of which, particularly the stick insects, they have not come across before so it was a novelty for them.
“It was just a nice opportunity for them to experience different animals.”
