NETBALL skills are being taught to pupils at a junior school as part of a string of sporting activities organised in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
Stuart Holloway, from Starz Netball Club, in Basingstoke, is holding the after-school sessions at Castle Hill Junior School, just for girls.
It is hoped that the children will enjoy learning the sport, and consider joining the club and becoming permanent members.
The school, in Winklebury Way, Winklebury, has also arranged for pupils to take part in a sponsored marathon, working in teams to cover the distance.
They will also try the Paralympic sport of Boccia – a target sport that tests muscle control and accuracy, demanding concentration at the highest level.
Sarah Wheble, PE leader at Castle Hill Junior School, said she hoped the netball sessions would continue.
She added: “The club is just for girls because sometimes they take a back seat when it comes to sport.
“They are learning netball skills and playing games and they love it. It’s proved to be very popular.”
