DIWALI was celebrated by families at a special party held in Basingstoke.
Children and their parents enjoyed Indian-themed food and Diwali art and craft activities at Playdays Play Centre, at the Kingsland Business Park, in Stewart Road.
The Hindu festival of light extends over five days, celebrating the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
Cheryl Standing, area manager of Cornerstones Nurseries, which owns the Playdays Play Centre, said: “A lot of parents were saying there’s nothing in the Basingstoke area for children with regards to Diwali. It’s a massive Hindu festival so we decided to hold a party.”
Children made Diwali lamps using clay, which Hindus put outside their homes during the festival. They also used Holi coloured powders to make patterns and pictures, and also made Diwali cards.
