Oakley and Deane WI
8:57am Friday 11th May 2012 in Reports
THE May meeting of Oakley and Deane WI was their annual meeting when members received a resume of the very varied and interesting meetings and activities enjoyed during the year. They were entertained at a jazz evening and a recital of A Christmas Carol and learnt about scrapbooking, how to drive safely during the winter and also the health benefits of practising tai chi and chi kung. The Stone Age was brought to life on another evening and there was a more serious talk about the life of females in prison and other talks on various crafts including painting, patchwork and Christmas decorations.
Members also enjoyed trips to Lechlade and Buscot Park and the Ashomoleum Museum in Oxford as well as an afternoon tea and a BBQ, in addition to joining the many events arranged by the federation and group including a skittles competition and quiz. Some members enjoyed taking various residential courses at Denman College and also participating in the various day seminars arranged there so all in all it has been a very busy and enjoyable year.
Following the election of the committee for the following year, which will be headed by Lyn Childs as president, reports were given on a recent afternoon tea at Peppone’s near Farnham, a trip to the Olympic site and a New Elizabethans day arranged by federation at Shawford all of which were very much enjoyed by those who attended.
The evening concluded with a swishing party when members brought items of clothing and accessories to sell.
An equally varied and enjoyable programme has been arranged for the following year and new members or guests will be made most welcome at the monthly meetings which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Andover Road Village Hall from 7.30pm to 9.45pm.
