IT WAS great to see a well-filled parish room for our January meeting to hear our speaker, Brian Spicer, who gave us an informative and historically interesting talk about ‘The Sale of the Century’ concerning the rise and fall (and subsequent sale) of Hackwood House and Park. He took us back through the famous dynasties which owned it from the 1600s onwards.
On a completely different note, Tuesday, February 1, will see Dr David Moss telling us about the Impact Foundation, whereby qualified doctors and nurses volunteer to fly out to India and give their services free to perform eye surgery on people living in outlying areas and cannot normally receive the treatment which has now transformed the quality of their lives.
In March, we celebrate our 92nd birthday, and on Saturday, March 12, we will hold our annual jumble sale at Old Basing Village Hall between 2pm and 4pm. Do come along and pick up a bargain or two or even three!
To find out more about our speakers and events log on to www.hampshirewi.org.uk – click on Old Basing in the list of WIs in the left-hand column where our web page will be found.
New members are always welcome. Why not come along and try us on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the parish room adjacent to St Mary’s Church, Old Basing?
