IN DECEMBER, the month began with the federation carol service which was held at the Methodist Church, in Sarum Hill.
Borough mayor Councillor Keith Chapman and the deputy mayor from Whitchurch also attended the service.
The Federation choir also sang the Townswomen’s Anthem “I am a small part of the World.” After the service, members enjoyed a cup of tea and mince pie while catching up with other guild members.
Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, our annual Christmas lunch, which was going to be held in Winchester, had to be postponed. Fortunately, the weather improved enough for us to hold our monthly meeting which had a very topical theme. Our very entertaining speaker this month was Reverend Haydon Wilcox, who is a freelance Anglican priest.
His talk was about his life as a vicar and his many projects, including how he became interested in flower arranging which he demonstrated while speaking to us. This was a very light-hearted talk, which included a lot of humour. The beautiful flower arrangement was later won by one of our members.
Due to a break in the weather, our stalwart ramblers had a short walk alongside the river at Alresford, followed by their Christmas lunch in the Swan at New Alresford. No other sub-groups met this month. We now look forward to our new programme in 2011.
If you would like to know more about the Townswomen’s Guild, why not come along as a visitor, you will be made very welcome. We meet every second Tuesday of the month at Sarum Hall, Sarum Hill, from 10am to noon.
