Basingstoke Morning Townswomen’s Guild

OUR speaker in October was Pam Howard, our federation president, who described her trip to Nepal which involved trekking and camping.

It began in Katmandu where the group enjoyed a cultural tour of the city taking in the spice and vegetable market with all its wonderful smells of the various spices. They also visited temples and palaces which had beautiful wood carvings. An unexpected sight was that of a funeral pyre.

On the treks, they came upon villages where they were entertained by the villagers and finally set up camp in the Pokhara region and saw spectacular sunrises.

The federation “Voices for Hospices” annual concert was held at Hartley Wintney and eight of our members attended.

As usual, various guilds excelled themselves with the entertainment.

Our own guild has sent 18 blankets to TG HQ for the Fistula Hospital appeal and another box of nine blankets is almost complete. Our arts/crafts group have donated handmade greeting cards to cover the cost of dispatching the boxes.

Our ramble this month was near Mortimer with a lunch at the Horse and Groom pub. Coffee morning was in Rose’s Bistro and monthly lunch at the Red Lion Hotel.

This month many of our members wore something pink to the meeting to acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness week.

Our guild meets at Sarum Hall, in Sarum Hill, Basingstoke, on the second Tuesday of each month at 10am.

Why not come along as a visitor to find out more about us you will be made very welcome.
