VALERIE Hyde: People in Silchester were saddened last week to hear of the death of Valerie, at the age of 92. She was such a stalwart of our church, as warden for more than 20 years.
She had been village hall chairman until very recently, and formerly was Guider with First Silchester and county treasurer for Hampshire North. She will be sadly missed and a very hard act to follow. Her funeral is today, at 2pm in St Mary’s Church.
AUCTION off: This was to have been held in the village hall on Saturday, October 27, but it has now been cancelled.
SILCHESTER Players: Present “Wyrd Sisters” on October 12, 13, 19 and 20, curtain up at 7.30pm. Tickets £8, concessions £6, from 0118 981 5600.
CELEBRATION of 350 years of the Book of Common Prayer at Evensong: On October 21, 6pm, in the parish church, led by the Bishop of Basingstoke. Tea and cakes from 5pm, and bells will ring at 5.30pm.
WORKING party: On Saturday, in the churchyard from 10am
