Chineham
10:56am Thursday 6th September 2012 in Community News By Fiona Biermann
COMMUNITY Safety Fun Day – targeted specifically at responsible dog ownership: Will be taking place on Saturday, September 15, from noon to 3pm at Sherfield Park Community Centre, Taylor’s Farm. Free fun and entertainment for all the family. For further information, call 883967.
LOCAL history: To many, Chineham has only a recent history as a relatively new development and little is known about the area’s heritage. However, we do know that Chineham was first settled in the medieval period and there was once even a Roman road running through the parish on its way from Silchester to Chichester and a moated farm house, a replica of which is now part of the Farm View Drive retirement complex. A grant has been secured to create and install boards at relevant sites around the parish to highlight local history. A volunteer with a knowledge of – or interest in – local history is needed to help create them. Anyone interested is invited to contact assistant clerk Julia Johnston on 324345 or assistantclerk@chineham.gov.uk .
