Old Basing/Lychpit

CARNIVAL news: Saturday, September 15, will be Carnival Day in the village, subject to good weather obviously.

The “Best of British”theme is retained and £100 is the prize for the best procession entry.

The RBL Corp of Drums is leading the field, so shake out those costumes and polish up your vintage vehicles.

Sadly, the committee treasurer is retiring this autumn, so hopefully another volunteer will come forward. Call Pat Brace on 478372.

THE Bakery: Changes afoot here with bread only on sale Saturdays and for special orders. Grant is now concentrating more on the cafe business, with some scrumptious new patisserie lines. Opening hours (except Sundays) are from 8am to 3pm and until 5pm on Wednesdays.

KNIT and Knatter: Starting next Tuesday, I’ll be available from 9.30am to 11.30am at The Bakery, in The Street, for any knitting/ crochet afficionados who's like to untangle a few yarns over coffee and cakes. Contact me on 326526 for details.

THE Ladies’ “First Friday” Coffee Morning: Is hosted on August 3 by Mrs Brant, in Huish Lane. Sheila on 350238 can tell you more.
