OPEN Garden: The rain held off for Jane Jordan’s Open Garden at The Coach House recently. The mostly walled garden has been extensively replanted over the last five years with plants and grasses.
There is also a formal pond, vegetable potager and sunken brick terrace. With 103 visitors, she managed to raise £900 for charity. Her next open garden will be on Sunday, September 9, from 2pm to 5.30pm.
EVERGREENS’ June meeting: Was entertainment from Terry Morris on his electric organ followed by strawberries and cream which everyone enjoyed. The July meeting will be a craft demonstration by Jan Painter.
NWR: Met last week, and discussed women who have faced challenges such as Rosa Parks, the civil rights campaigner, Caroline Herschel, the 18th/19th century astronomer, and Alison Hargreaves, the mountaineer who was the first woman to reach the summit of Everest without oxygen or sherpas.
The evening continued the theme for this year of ‘Taking the Challenge’ to reflect the Olympics.
The next meeting on July 12 is a Beetle Drive.
