PARISH pump: At the September meeting, the parish council objected to the planning application for the change of use of land off Dixon Road for the “stationing of caravans for residential purposes for three gypsy pitches”, and agreed to employ a planning specialist to object on their behalf.

EVERGREENS: May says: “The September meeting began with the business part of the meeting followed by chair exercises and meditation given by Jenny Edwards. The next meeting is out Harvest Festival on October 6.”

LAST Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall: Was brought to the village hall last Saturday. Classically trained soprano Lauren Eleanor Newman – accompanied by Steve Craig – entertained the Promenaders in the first half, including a tribute to Julie Sutton with “I Vow To Thee My Country”.

After supper, the Proms were televised live, and everyone enjoyed lots of flag waving and singing “Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory, Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem. At the end of the evening, Alan Ball thanked the organising committee for all their hard work.
