ALL the news...that was fit to deliver was the province of Tony Rumbold, 84, whose passing last month was marked by a packed Rotherwick church in tribute to a much-loved and much-missed local character.

Tony and his wife ran the successful doorstep newspaper delivery service to the villages for many years before his retirement. The Rev Peter Hewlett-Smith conducted the moving memorial service for family and friends before Tony’s interment in the churchyard. The congregation repaired to the Coach and Horses afterwards, where Tony was credited with standing everyone one last drink for the ditch! Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Rumbolds.

THE road not taken: Will be Frog Lane and the short-cut through Hartley Wespall to the A33 next week, as roadworks to lay a new pipe will be commencing this Monday. Best to find an alternative route for hopefully only a few days.

THE lights are on…and somebody’s home: Nice to see the new house on Ninian’s Corner occupied at last. Welcome to Rotherwick!
