THE First World War Commemoration event: Takes place this Saturday, at the Royal British Legion field, in Crown Lane, staring at noon, and continuing until 4.30pm.

Souvenir programmes, at £2, are still available in the Bakehouse, Linden Market and Oliver’s, with sales helping towards funding the day. You could win a balloon flight.

Many attractions include a Chinook helicopter landing at 11.30am and departing at 4.30pm, and an original First World War field gun firing during the afternoon. Please note that the Royal British Legion car park will be closed from Friday evening, so all vehicles must be removed.

CARNIVAL news: The Old Basing Skittles final was won by Adam Pyle’s team and helped benefit carnival funds by £239. Planning has already started for June 20, 2015, under the new chairmanship of Joe Croombs. The AGM takes place on October 15, when profits will be distributed to local groups.

THE Mill Field Conservation Group: Would welcome volunteer helpers this Sunday, 10am-3pm, to help improve walking access in winter months.
