WWI Commemorations: Tomorrow, there is an Edwardian Entertainment in the village hall from 8pm, by Silchester Players. Tomorrow & Saturday, “See, Bring and Tell” in the hall from 2pm.
GARDEN Open: At West Silchester Hall, from 2pm to 6pm, with teas. Admission £3.50, children free.
VILLAGE Market: On Saturday, from 10am to noon, in the hall.
CHURCH Teas: In the parish church each Saturday and Sunday, from 2pm to 5pm, continuing into September (weddings permitting).
PHOENIX Club: At Heathfield, if fine, with a bring-and-buy sale from 2pm on August 6.
HOLIDAY Club: Has been in full swing this week, with many events for the children. This is a joint venture with the Methodist and St Mary’s Church.
DIARY dates: August 10, a special tour of the dig particularly for villagers from 11.30am. September 13, Ride and Stride around the churches; beer festival from 4pm, also September 13 in the hall.
SILCHESTER CC: Managed a convincing nine-wicket win over local rivals Basingstoke last weekend, thanks to good all-round bowling and an attacking 80 from opening batsman Shaun Bradley.
