ROMAN dig: Is open daily (except Fridays) until August 16. One of the main open days is Saturday, July 26, from 10am to 6pm.
VILLAGE Tea Party: Takes place this Sunday, from 2.30pm. Everyone is invited to celebrate the newly improved village hall. Tea and cake will be served.
The mayor and mayoress of Basingstoke will visit and draw raffle prizes.
DIG Supper and Barn Dance: Keep the date, August 2. More details later.
This will be the last dig supper and also marks the retirement of Professor Michael Fulford.
CREAM teas: Continue at the Methodist Church each Sunday, from 3pm to 5pm, and at the parish church, Saturday and Sunday, from 2pm to 5pm – weddings permitting!
ALAN Freeman: Sadly died this week, aged 91. A well-known personality in Silchester, he will be particularly missed in November at the War Memorial where he laid a wreath in memory of the fallen. He had served at Monte Cassino with the Royal Engineers.
MORRIS men from Fleet: Perform at the Calleva Arms on Tuesday, from 8pm.
