NWR: Their meeting last Thursday was about names. Gill said: “About a dozen of us discussed the origin of names, family traditions, maiden names, what we would like to have been called and why we chose the names of our children.

“On Saturday we’re enjoying a barge trip and meal along the Basingstoke Canal.”

ST LEONARD’S Church: Is open on Saturday, to visit or for prayer. All welcome, 10am to 4pm.

PARISH Council: Met on June 11, and five members of the public were in attendance. Cllr Ball explained that the trees between Sherfield Village and Taylor’s Farm had been felled without permission. The situation was with the borough and county councillors, as well as Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The minutes of the meeting on May 14 were signed as a record.
