AHOY there! Did you think the outskirts of Rotherwick were the last places you’d expect to see a regatta? Think again.... Hartley Wespall’s clear chalk stream is perfect for a bit of nautical nonsense all in a charitable good cause.
This Sunday, from 2pm onwards, the famous Hartley Wespall Regatta will once more take place at Hartley Mill, courtesy of commodores Jane and John Malarkey. The programme includes a duck race (ducks provided) fruit/vegetable and paper/card boats, sailboats, Open Boat Race, Fathers Race and even a Tennis Ball Race! There will also be plenty of land-locked games, stalls and, of course, tea and cakes.
SPOOKY goings-on... in the village this weekend, as independent film company Indochina Films will be shooting a short mystery movie based on an 18th-century ghost story! Look out for action in and around the churchyard, the Coach & Horses, and various driveways and houses along The Street. A certain Rotherwick actress, who celebrates her birthday today, flies in this week to take part – happy birthday Grace!
