Sherfield-on-Loddon

NWR’S March meeting: Was in recognition of International Women’s Day.

Gill says “Members spoke of amazing women including Marion Cornick, who founded the Loddon School in 1988, Susanne Enzer, the first midwife to use reflexology on pregnant women and Evelyn Glennie, the profoundly deaf percussionist.

“There was also a quiz on prominent women. It was an interesting evening with lots of animated discussion.”

JAZZ Evening: Natalie says: “52 Skidoo really did get ‘The Joint Jumpin’ at this recent event with their mix of vintage American jazz.

“The audience, many of whom had dressed as gangsters and molls, enjoyed the gentle humour of the young Harlem swing trio from Lancashire and rewarded their musicianship by dancing. Funds raised will go to the village hall. The ‘Friends’ committee look forward to welcoming you to their next event which is an antiques fair on Sunday.”

EVERGREENS: May says: “Our March meeting was a very interesting talk given by Gerald Merritt on his role as a member of the hospital trust for older people. Our next meeting is on April 8.”
