NUMBERS 26 and 25, London Street.
Hammicks Bookshop opened in 1974 but changed its location at least twice before being taken over by Ottakers.
Back in 1948 this site was next door to Burberrys (no. 27) and was occupied by W.E. Carter & Son (Saddlers) while number 25 was shared jointly by Clement Clarke Ltd. (Dispensing Opticians) and a café named Cresswell & Theobald. Many people will remember 25, London Street as Foodsmiths, a delicatessen, as shown in the archive photo.
