AT the end of April, four of our members attended the Federation AGM, which was held at the Camberley Golf Club.

After the business of the day and lunch, we enjoyed a talk given by Nick R Thomas, a comedy writer.

May was a very special month for us this year as we celebrated our 40th birthday. Firstly, we had a talk given by Julie Shepherd, who explained how Tesco is supporting local communities, which was very informative. The remainder of the meeting was so appropriate for a birthday – a display of jewellery was supplied by Mary Steed, and there was an opportunity to buy. Mary also gave three items to be raffled.

We also had Valerie Bullions, who came along to demonstrate flower arranging – again one arrangement was given as a raffle prize.

With our coffee, instead of the traditional cake, we enjoyed cup cakes, very kindly made and given by Muriel Stokes, a guild member.

After the meeting, many members enjoyed a lunch at the Red Lion Hotel, where we had a private room. So the celebration day was about jewellery, flowers, cakes and lunch.

The sub groups, arts and crafts, ramblers and coffee morning met, as usual, during May. We hope we will be celebrating many more years as a guild and would welcome new members.

If you would like to know more about the Townswomen’s Guild, why not come along as a visitor? We meet every second Tuesday of the month at Sarum Hall, Sarum Hill, Basingstoke, from 10am to noon.
