THERE was much foot tapping at the 93rd birthday meeting of the group in April, when members were entertained by Julie Horton, a jazz singer, and her accompanying pianist, Chris Newman, as they sang and played a selection of all-time jazz classics.

Between songs, Chris spoke about the origins of the various types of jazz music, and also gave brief anecdotes of the various composers.

The business for the evening was kept to a minimum so members had plenty of time to enjoy both the entertainment and a buffet supper organised by the committee. However, details were given of various forthcoming events which include a trip to Buscot Garden Centre and Lechlade, and the draw was made for a member to receive a bursary to attend a course of her choice at the WI’s Denman College.

The competition for the evening was for six decorated Easter biscuits.

At the May meeting, the speaker will be Penny Loveridge, who will be talking about “Painting Through My Life.” Visitors will be made most welcome.

The meeting will be at the usual venue at the Andover Road Village Hall from 7.30pm to 9.45pm on the second Tuesday of the month.
