IN March the group had its AGM, and Patricia Hudson will remain as chairman. She thanked the committee and members for all their support during the year. An auction was held after the AGM.

In April, our speaker was Sue Tapliss, who is the curator of The Willis Museum, and her talk was a very interesting one about Lacock, titled: “From cream teas to clapperboard.”

Members saw many interesting slides of this lovely village which also included maps from 1773 until the present time. Very little has changed, and this has enabled the village to be used in so many period costume dramas for film and television.

Even if you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting Lacock many of us will have seen it on TV and film, Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice and Cranford to name just a few. Lacock is also promoted in the USA as a picture of rural England. With so much history, it is worth a visit.

The group’s arts and craft members are still busy preparing for Rainbow Day in June.

The ramblers went to Ellisfield for a four-mile walk ending at The Fox pub for refreshments. The coffee morning was at The Willis Museum.

Due to the Easter Holiday and the Royal Wedding, the group did not have a lunch date in April.

If you would like to know more about the Townswomen’s Guild, why not come along as a visitor? The group meets every second Tuesday of the month at Sarum Hall, Sarum Hill, Basingstoke, from 10am to noon. You will get a warm welcome.
