IT WASN’T University Challenge of the Third Age, but when a few “Eggheads” and “Masterminds” started the 2011 programme in January with a general knowledge quiz in the hall of St Michael’s Church in Basingstoke, a lot of fun was had by all and it left the members eagerly awaiting the remainder of the 2011 programme.
This programme is expected to include a number of speakers on local topics, for example The History of Basingstoke, Architecture of Basingstoke, local author Jane Austen, The Vyne at Sherborne St John (talk and visit), and a visit to the Houses of Parliament in May.
Any eligible adults are welcome to join this new branch of the U3A.
There are more than 700 branches in the UK. The movement is non-political, non-religious, countrywide association and membership is open to anyone not in full-time employment.
The monthly meetings are held in the hall of St Michael’s Church, Basingstoke, every second Tuesday in the month, at 2pm.
