Basingstoke Mencap is an independent charity providing support and services for children, young people and adults with a learning disability and their family carers in the local area.

It helps people to enjoy a happy life in their home and community. This is achieved by provision of services and support for adults and young people with learning disabilities and/or mental health issues along with their families and carers.

Services include:

•One to One support to help individuals to manage their homes and assist them to interact with the community through activities such as shopping and leisure.

•Leisure clubs for adults and for young people

•The ASPIRE project which helps both young people and adults with learning disabilities to prepare themselves for volunteering, work experience and ultimately paid employment. Full support is provided for the individuals up to and including their successful appointment.

•The GREENFINGERS project provides opportunities to learn new skills in horticulture, woodwork and craft.

In addition to the services, the charity provides information, issues monthly newsletters and supports individuals and families when they are facing crises.

It will arrange to meet with you and discuss your needs, agree a support plan together that you have control of, sign an agreement to provide you with regular support, meet a support worker and agree payment for support monthly

It can help with banking and paying bills; keeping the house clean; cooking; finding work/training; shopping; taking part in sports; attending clubs/activities; visiting new places; going out into the community with your support worker; finding out information; and listening and understanding.
