SCHOOL fair: As we enter the season of fetes and fairs, St Mark's School in Woodbury Road set the pace on Saturday with a well-attended event. Visitors were able to watch a mix of competitive events and enjoy stalls and refreshments. Tip for next year: the cakes come recommended!

HATCH Warren Summer Fair: The popular Hatch Warren Summer festival will take place on Saturday, 14 July from noon to 4pm. The Community Centre field will be hosting a wide range of stall and music will be provided by DJ Mark Halliday. This event is always a popular start to the school holidays.

BEGGARWOOD Community Centre hosted an Equalitea on Friday, 90 years after the Equal Franchise Act 1928 extended the right to vote to all people. The event also featured coverage of the 50:50 campaign which aims to get a better balance of gender for members of Parliament. The new Community Centre is getting itself onto the Basingstoke map, offering one of the most attractive settings for any community centre in the town.

RED cross mystery. Mystery surrounds the identity of the people who have painted red crosses on the white mini roundabouts in Hatch Warren. It is assumed that they are a public show of support for England in the World Cup.

COMMUNITY lunch: The next Community Lunch will take place at the Beggarwood Community Centre next Wednesday, 4 July from 12.30pm. A delicious light lunch of soup or ploughmans, plus fruit, tea or coffee costs just £3. The lunch is prepared and served by volunteers, please come along and support
