STROKE strikes in an instant, but its effects can last a lifetime.

The Basingstoke Area Stroke Support group (BASS) formed in 2008, helps stroke survivors as they gradually rebuild their lives.

The impact of stroke is devastating, but with the support of the group, who offer art and exercise classes and a supported conversation group, stroke survivors are able to build their confidence and meet new people.

BASS group supports and encourages people with the help of trained and experienced volunteers, some of whom have a personal experience of stroke.

It’s hugely important that stroke survivors feel supported in their community throughout their road to recovery and BASS group works hard to help people continue moving forward in life after stroke.

The group is a much-needed place for local stroke survivors and their families to come together, support each other, gain confidence, improve their speaking, movement, learn skills or simply meet new people.

In addition to increasing members, BASS welcomes volunteers who would like to help others with communication, gardening and other activities, people who are good at organising, or who would simply help with putting out tables and making tea for stroke survivors and their carers.

They can also help ensure that stroke survivors in Basingstoke know that they are not alone, and that they can come and join the group in its new location.
