SUE Whistler, aka Akela, was honoured for 30 years' service to Scouting at the St George's Day parade and at a service last Sunday in Hook.

It was a very special occasion as it also celebrated 100 years of Scouting, one of many events that will mark this centenary year.

Many thanks to all the behind-the-scenes organisers, mums, dads and the excellent catering team that made the day possible.

ANNUAL parish meeting: Took place in Rotherwick church, also on Sunday, to hear the State of the Churches message.

Rotherwick church, in particular, has seen the start of an intensive renovation project, of which the highlight has been the addition of a new electronic organ to replace the old pipe organ, more than 100 years old and finally retired in honour.

Further developments will include the removal of the rood screen to further unify the chancel and the nave.

AUNTIE Beeb's ears must have been burning over the weekend as the Whitewater Valley Preservation Society welcomed Bruce Parker, of South Today fame, as the guest speaker at their annual general meeting in Rotherwick Village Hall.

Mr Parker regaled the members with anecdotes gleaned from more than 40 years' experience in broadcasting, and introduced his wife Susannah, for whom it was a bit of a homecoming as she used to live in Rotherwick!
