A GREEN team of young eco-warriors are making sure staff and pupils at their school recycle after learning all about reusing rubbish.
The children from Fairfields Primary School, in Council Road, Basingstoke, who are members of the Green Team, were visited by “Recycling Rachel” from Hampshire County Council’s environmental department, who explained why everyone should recycle their waste.
The group of 14 learned which types of rubbish can be recycled and how to sort different materials into recyclable and non-recyclable.
Teacher Gemma Tucker said: “The team had a target to raise awareness about recycling in school as they found people weren’t recycling correctly.
“They learned about how waste affects the planet and have been since trying to implement lots of things.”
The school takes green issues very seriously, and the team of 14 represent each year group, working to make it more environmentally friendly. Mrs Tucker said: “We think the rights of a child are really important, and one of the rights is that we have the right to a clean environment.”
