NOW that the school summer holidays have started, help is at hand for parents trying to keep tabs on their children.
Telemetry Systems, based at Finns Business Park, near Odiham, has come up with an innovative and affordable GPS tracking system called TracLogik.
Business partner Simon Thomas said: “I think it is fantastic for families, because the kids carry the tracker and the parents control how often it reports back.
“It’s small and convenient to carry, has a long battery life and can charge quickly.”
The lightweight water-resistant device can be tracked via a control panel on a computer or by calling it by mobile phone. It in turn returns a call with a text message detailing its location.
Simon also sees plenty of business applications for the easy-to-use system.
He said: “You can track anything, whether it is an employee, vehicle, or something valuable, and the system couldn’t be easier to use.
“It can be placed in a vehicle or on a motorcycle and there is the option to hardwire it in as well, so it can be used for fleets of vehicles and delivery vans.
“You can also use the device to keep track of valuable assets and people, such as lone employees. It also has a panic button and if it is pressed it will bring up an alert message to predefined mobile phone numbers, email or if you want, you can have that alert message sent to an alarm response centre.
“You can set boundaries or geofences around a specific area and when the unit leaves that area, it will send you an alert, saying where the tracker is. You can set zones, so you can see when people arrive or when objects leave.”
The company, which runs a clocking-on business called TimeAttend, has adapted and modified its software to become a more sophisticated tool for the workplace.
“TracLogik uses similar technology to an attendance system we built to log people in and out of work,” said Simon.
Simon said that Telemetry Systems is set to market the product to local businesses and is in the process of developing an iPhone application.
