Store scores winning goal with new look

WILKINSON scored a winning goal with a successful store makeover in The Malls shopping centre last week.

And the household retailer’s sup porters were out in force to see Frank Gray, manager of Basingstoke Town Football Club, officially reopen the new-look store.

Shoppers flocked to catch their first look at the store, and watched as Frank cut a ribbon alongside Robin Lassiter, Wilkinson head of business transformation, and store manager Andrew Dawson.

Throughout the day, staff handed out free sweets and balloons, while younger shoppers were entertained with free face-painting.

Andrew said: “The opening day was a great success. The store looks better than ever and we’re really pleased with the makeover.

“The transformation has already received some great feedback from our customers who queued to get into the store to ensure they were among the first to get a look at the new layout.”

The Basingstoke store is the latest of more than 70 that are to be rebranded this year. Still a family- owned business, the national chain now has more than 320 stores across the UK, selling a wide vari ety of household goods.

Among the staff who watched the ribbon-cutting were Glynis Sims, Julie Stillings, Andrea Gideon and Gillon Thompson, who were all cel ebrating their tenth anniversary with the company.

To mark the day, Wilkinson donat ed £50 to Basingstoke Town FC’s chosen charity, Naomi House Children’s Hospice, based in Sutton Scotney. The charity is part of Children’s Hospice UK, which is Wilkinson’s charity of the year.

Staff also hosted a cake sale raising a further £60, which will go towards supporting children, with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
