A BASINGSTOKE couple scored a sweet success as they emerged a winner at the prestigious Hantsweb Awards.
Kathryn and Kristian Price, who last year set up The Sweet Treat Company in Winchester and whose website can be found at sweettreatco.co.uk – were the winners of the Best Small Business category.
Kristian said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won the award for sweettreatco.co.uk. It’s been a rollercoaster year setting up our sweet shop, and the website is key to our success.
“The award will be shared with all of our customers, staff, Facebook fans and Twitter followers who have been a huge support.
“This award is a fantastic accolade for our company and we are looking forward to many more happy years in business.”
The winning website was designed by Basingstoke firm The Escape, which also set up the Destination Basingstoke website.
While this failed to take top honours, it was runner-up in the Best Pride of Place and the Best Tourism and Leisure cate gories.
Felicity Edwards, managing director of Destination Basingstoke – which is seeking to improve the profile of Basingstoke and Deane – said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be runner-up and would like to thank all who have been involved in the development of the website, especially everyone at The Escape and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for their support, and most importantly all the visitors to the site who have made it the success it is.
“This is a great incentive to keep working to ensure the site becomes the best informa tion resource for anyone wanting to find out about the Basingstoke area.”
Organised by Hampshire County Council, the Hantsweb Awards recognise and cele brate the top websites across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
This year, there was a record 1,400 nomi nations across 12 categories, which attract ed more than 5,000 votes from the public.
Hampshire County Council IT champion Councillor Keith Evans said: “It was tremendous to receive a record number of nominations.
“Each of the finalists’ websites demon strates good practice in web excellence, and the winners and runners-up can be proud of what their websites have achieved.”
