A PODIATRY business in Basingstoke, which has changed its patients lives after purchasing state-of-the-art equipment, is set to expand to more than double its size this year.

Eclipse Foot Clinic which operates from the Hackwood Partnership, in Essex Road, Basingstoke, is hoping to open a new premises in Winchester having already expanded by 150 per cent in the last two years.

Peter Williams, director of the business and a single father-of-three, currently works as one of the podiatrists, but is hoping to take more of a directorship role once the clinic expands.

The 36-year-old started his career in the NHS, but became frustrated at the lack of resources.

In 2011 he set up his own clinic working from private hospitals, and has since expanded, now employing five members of staff.

“We do your average chiropody treatment but we also do an awful lot of high end treatment,” he explained.

He is particularly proud of the clinic’s treatment for varrucas, called Swift, which uses microwaves to heat the skin.

“The majority of people who come to us have had them for eight to 10 years and they are unsightly and painful and they are worried about contaminating family members. All other treatment damages the skin, but this heats it by about five to 10 degrees.”

With a 76 per cent success rate, it is much more effective than the majority of other treatments which only work around 40 per cent of the time.

“It’s an amazing bit of kit and was really worth the investment,” said Peter, adding: “As a company we are exceptionally forward thinking in terms of technology.”

Peter also considers his company’s impact on the environment, and made the decision to run as a paperless business.

Eclipse also offers its customers movement analysis, working with professional sports people to help them improve their performance.

“It looks at how people walk and run and then teaches them to do if differently,” explained Peter, adding: “They create movement patterns that are prone to injury so it means they can perform better. It might knock 10 seconds off a personal best.”

Looking ahead to the next 12 months, Peter hopes to grow by another 50 per cent, and said: “We are on course to expand this year. My goal has always been to manage the business as a director so that’s my plan within the next 12 months and finding our own self-contained place in Winchester.”

The team’s focus has always been about patient satisfaction, and as a result Eclipse has many repeat clients.

And Peter said he loves seeing his patients and staff happy, adding: “I’m a people pleaser so the best thing is coming to work and everyone is happy. Everyone enjoys coming to work and that’s the culture I always wanted.

“When we get the client results, I love hearing people say how amazing our treatment is. People say they can go out and play with their grandchildren again or play football. It can be life changing.”
