A HAMPSHIRE entrepreneur has vowed to give rail commuters power to fight back against rail delays through a revamped app.

James Zorab, 32, has launched an update to Railbuddy, which currently tells you in real time whether your train is delayed.

However, the update to the app will tell you how much compensation you get when you qualify for delay compensation as well as allowing the user to submit the delay claim. It also give status alerts starting 90 minutes before departure, informing commuters of any delays along with a dashboard full of all the relevant information about routes.

The original app was launched in April 2016 with fellow co-founder Lloyd Harrison with a basic interface showing the running times of trains.

However, the major update, the 32-year-old said, would create a unique, fully automated service that provided real-time information on more than 32,000 trains a day.

James, pictured, who works as a digital business development director, said: “Commuting is tough; long hours, packed trains, thousands paid out on season tickets.

“I have spent years travelling back and forth to London and never claimed a penny because I often didn’t know when I could claim, or if I did, couldn’t face the long, tedious form-filling.

“I got to the point where I couldn’t bear it anymore and decided to do something to change it.

“It appears that it’s most likely due to commuters not knowing when they can actually claim - with just 38 per cent of passengers satisfied with their train company alerting them to their right to claim compensation.

“Annually, that’s across more than 1.7 billion journeys in the UK.

“I’m so excited to take Railbuddy to the next level and brighten up what I know will be a tough day for them!”

Earlier this year, Hampshire rail operator South Western Railway recorded one of the lowest overall satisfaction scores in the latest National Rail Passenger Satisfaction survey with 75 per cent of passengers expressing satisfaction with the service.

With this in mind, James, from Winchester, wanted to take the app to his fellow commuters first, and share the benefits with them straight away before launching the app officially.
