BASINGSTOKE Jobcentre has announced a new event as it continues to help those seeking work.

The Jobcentre allows employment agencies and training providers to hold interviews, recruitment events and give talks in their offices. In addition to that, there are offices available at no cost to the employer and the centre is happy to help with recruitment needs.

Over the past few weeks, the centre has seen two different education agencies, Celsian and Teaching Personnel, hold interviews in the centre, with vacancies for teaching staff and teaching assistants.

Also available are work experience placements in the hospitality industry, notably from Premier Inn in Basingstoke, so that people can try out the work before they commit themselves to it.

Hazel Prior, an employment advisor with Jobcentre, said: “Work experience is so beneficial, and even if they find that hospitality is not the route they wish to go, it gives something new to put on their CV.

“Some of the placements can be as long as eight weeks, which can be invaluable to some people trying to find work.”

More supporters of the work experience programme include the British Heart Foundation Furniture and Electrical store, as well as The Entertainer.

The work experience opportunities included being a warehouse assistant at the BHF, and store and warehouse assistants in The Entertainer.

A jobs fair will be held at the Basingstoke Jobcentre on August 23, where local employers are invited to attend and help fill up any Christmas vacancies that might need filling. The Jobcentre is now taking bookings for the event.

The Jobcentre also has a new Twitter account, @JCPinHampshire, where it tweets up to date advice and information about local jobs and interview advice.
